India
has detected a total of 63 cases of the COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1. Goa
has reported the highest number of cases with 34, followed by nine cases
in Maharashtra, eight in Karnataka, six in Kerala, four in Tamil Nadu,
and two in Telangana.
Symptoms of JN.1 Variant
According
to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), common symptoms
of COVID-19, including the JN.1 variant, include fever, chills, cough,
difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body
aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or
runny nose, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The severity of symptoms
depends on an individual's immunity and overall health.
Understanding the JN.1 Variant
JN.1
is linked to B.A.2.86, a descendant of the Omicron variant. While there
is no clear information on its level of danger, experts suggest that
the virus may be more transmissible based on the increasing cases.
Health experts warn that the virus can mutate and strengthen over time,
and the possibility of a rise in its numbers in the coming days is
anticipated. Continued monitoring and public health measures are crucial
to curb the potential spread of the JN.1 variant.
